There is no minimum or maximum expectation regarding the duration of an educational psychologist’s work; sometimes, the educational psychologist will be completing a one-off consultation or assessment, whereas at other times there may be need for ongoing involvement and therapeutic support. All work is calculated using an hourly rate, so that your psychologist can operate flexibly to meet the needs of the family or school as required.
Private Commissions for Families
During the initial conversation with the educational psychologist, you will be given a verbal estimate of the likely cost of the work.
Schools are also offered different forms of educational psychologist support ranging from a single half-day (ad-hoc request) up to an agreed number of days throughout the academic year (annual contract).
Annual Contracts
These are offered on the basis of no less than four days per academic year and are usually agreed in the summer term, with the agreed days to be delivered during the following academic year. This provides reassurance to schools that they will be able to access educational psychology support throughout the year. Annual contracts can be extended upon request, and subject to educational psychologist capacity.
Ad-Hoc Requests
RTE Psychology also offers ad-hoc support to schools, whereby a request for educational psychologist involvement can be made at any time during the academic year. This means that educational psychology support can be accessed on a more flexible basis.
